What Happened and The Story We Tell

There is what happened.

And then there’s the story we tell.

The way our brain works, we record “what happened” as “the story of what happened”.

Then we relate to the story as IF it’s what actually happened.

But it’s not. It’s just the story.

Our memories are faulty and full of misremembering.

That’s why bystanders to a crime report such drastic different accountings of something that may have only taken place a few minutes before.

Given this, it’s crucial that we check our stories for accuracy and pay attention to how we repeat stories across time.

What stories are you telling?
